Papa Can You Hear Me?

Dear Teresa:

My house mate and I are studying this summer for a 16-hour written exam we have to endure in August to be officially admitted to doctoral candidacy in our psychology program after five years and a bazillion dollars worth of grad school.

What the hell does this have to do with Teresa Strasser?  To buffer the burden of biopsychology, we watch WYWO while we study testosterone and the prefrontal cortex.

I need the break before my cortex falls out...and there are so many appealing aspects of the show.  I look forward to seeing creative design, the beautifully angular carpenter man, Chayse's acid trips incarnate, and surprised strangers yelling, "Holy shit!"

But you, Teresa, ARE the show.  You are the Josie and the others are the Pussycats.  You are the Willy Wonka and the others are Oompa Loompas.   "From tacky to tiki"… you are the Poet Laureate of the Power Tools.  You're the Vera Wang of wit.  You get the picture…your sense of humor remains unmatched.

And now I have read that you are leaving the show.  How sad I am for us!!  Just like when Charo appeared on the Love Boat, I knew it was only for a visit, and I enjoyed it while it lasted.

I always knew that you were destined for bigger and better things.  One can see that your star shines much too brightly for Tinker toy sconces.

Whatever your future may hold, you surely have the audience's best wishes!  HOWEVER, if you ever stop writing, we'll be pissed.  If you stopped writing it would be like Starbucks not serving coffee anymore, or like Dunkin' Donuts not making…uh…donuts.

You are truly gifted at your craft.  For what it's worth, I read your columns, and it makes ME want to be a better teacher, because you are so good at what you do. Thank you for that.

Please remember that you have an open invitation to speak about anything you want at the University at Albany, State University of New York, in my Psychology classes...I think you promised me a series on clog dancing hookers if you were ever in Upstate New York.

Teresa, YOU ROCK!  Thanks for making me laugh (and making me think) when I needed it...I hope you have someone who does that for you.

All good wishes to you,

Marissa H.
